The small on-site museum is free to enter and worth a visit before or after the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you explore the ruins, you can hike along the trail that loops behind the complex. I recommend you hike at least partway to see La Cara del Inca, a natural rock formation with a sharp nose that resembles the profile of the indigenous people of the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the way we passed homes with llamas and sheep, which was a fitting backdrop to the ruins. The town is full of silver shops, from small family-run stalls to larger jewelry stores that line the main streets near the central plaza. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We stopped in Joyer\u00eda Jara &amp; Hijos located across from the Chordeleg Museum (<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/4zs19P7V6oK3R5JD6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">map<\/a>). Then, before catching the bus, we bought ice cream and sat in the square to enjoy a quiet moment in Chordeleg, one of the most charming places to visit near Cuenca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Sigsig for Panama Hats<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sigsig is best known for its tradition of weaving sombreros de paja toquilla, commonly known as Panama hats. We ran out of time to visit since we were traveling by bus. Descend to a Cloud Forest + Waterfall<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Located just over an hour from Cuenca, El Chorro del Gir\u00f3n is a series of waterfalls tucked into the mountains near the town of Gir\u00f3n. Expect to get wet. I visited at the end of the rainy season and was caught off guard by the force of the water, which also made the path incredibly slick in places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plan to spend 30 minutes to an hour here, depending on how long you linger or if you try any of the extra activities (such as a canopy zipline or skybike).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I didn&#8217;t have time to do the longer trek, but my friends have and gave me the details. The first sign you see as you approach Giron is the start of the trail to the higher falls. It takes about 2.5 hours round trip.
