I’m so happy you found it useful Nancy! I love exploring the small surrounding towns when I’m in Oaxaca City. You can take tours if you want everything done for you. But the colectivos make it convenient to explore these Oaxaca day trips on your own as well. Have fun on your trip!

It will be so helpful when we arrive in Oaxaca, May 2021. I have been compiling different posts for months, but your article puts everything into one. The places to see and how to see them. Thanks again!

Comment on Finding Flamingos in Celestún Mexico by Cultures Traveled https://culturestraveled.com/celestun-flamingo-tour/#comment-1050 http://culturestraveled.com/?p=1782#comment-1050 In reply to Liz.

It’s likely too late in the year to see flamingos in Celestun. This time of year they are in Rio Lagartos. But in the past few years, people have been seeing them all along the coast from Sisal through Telchac Puerto. I’m not sure if those areas are specific to a time of year. I’m not the biggest fan of Progreso. You might consider one of the other coastal towns instead, especially if you have your own car.

I’m going to Mérida next week (late April), do you think it’d be worth a trip to Celestun? I’d love to see the flamingos, otherwise would probably go to Progresso for the day trip instead. Thanks so much!
